Hello all, I'm new at Photoshop and I am reallly struggling with it. I even bought Photoshop for Dummies and am still floundering. I am trying to add color to black and white photos. I can get a color on a black and white, and when I opened a new layer, and tried to put on a different color somewhere else in the image, the entire photo changes to the new color. How do you put on more than one color? And when I try to save the result and print with even one color just to see some accomplishment, the color goes away and the highlighted area or selected area is without color and just showing the selection. It is really frustrating but fun and exciting as I can see unlimited possibilities if I could only get past step one. Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks all. Photohistory:)

Hello Photohistory,
I'm afraid, there is no easy way to achieve this. In most cases, you change painting mode to "Color" and recolor the image manually with the Brush tool.

Here is a flash movie with simple example of using "Color" mode:

Or try this site for colourizing a black and white photo. It has a free video that you can download on to your hard drive. The video is taught by Photoshop expert Bert Monroy. Don't worry, the video is easy to follow along with. :)
