Raising Voices is a small non-profit organization working to prevent violence against women and chlidren in East and Southern Africa. We are seeking a creative, experienced, skilled and totally committed graphic designer for a field-based internship of at least 5 months (August – December 2007). We are looking for someone obsessed with design, who wants to use their design skills for social justice and, who has a high level of technical skill and experience. We have two rather complex projects that need an experienced print designer.

Responsibilities include designing:
• new Activist Kit on violence against women and HIV/AIDS

• new ‘toolkit’ on how to create safer schools

• posters and other communication materials on violence prevention

• activist calendar on violence against women

• exhibition of photographs and case studies on violence against women and children

• organizational materials (info sheet, brochure, pamphlet)

Experience/Qualities:

• Must have at least 3 years in on-the-job experience of design for print materials

• Expertise in relevant design packages (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator)

• Skilled at layout

• Willing to work creatively within Raising Voices existing style

• Experience in designing a variety of communication materials and publications

• Results oriented

• Interest in women and children’s rights

• Ability to work in team environment

• Committed, motivated, hard working, detail oriented

• Web skills a plus!
