PS 7 - want to divide a selection

I want to slice my 900-pixel-wide image into 5-pixel-wide strips (each strip on it's own layer).

I can do this by pressing a "divide" button if I use slices, but I want to put each strip into its own new layer. I don't know how.

Does anyone know how to do this (other than manually, one at a time)?

You cannot automate that.

Go back and use the SLICE function -- and then re-assemble the slices into a single file. That's probably the fastest way to do it.

I did find a way to do this. Using an action, layer via cut, set selection, set bkgd, and nudge the selection.

Why? I'm trying to make something I can use with a lenticular screen. And it worked!
