Can anyone help me on how to acheive the black portion of this picture that bleeds into the main pic. Ive been trying to feather a shape (circle) in photoshop with no luck...basically I want to make a black circle wash into the graphic underneath. Using the shape tool in photoshop leaves the feather option dimmed so I dont know where to start. The example is attached and any help is appreciated.

Put the circle on a separate layer - above the other images. Then apply the gaussian blur to it. Put your text on a separate layer above that one.
