Default Don't Let them Treat You Like an Employee! Keep Copyright!

I had a potential client who wanted to own my copyrighted designs and without my being an employee. They didn't want to pay me for them, either. They wanted me to work on spec. This bothered me. They are a marketing company in Utah. I hope other designers say "no," also.

All my contracts specify that I retain all copyrights. They even need to ask my permission when they want to apply my designs to other mediums.

They're paying me for my design solutions and expertise. Owning the intellectual property is an additional product they can pay for to receive.
