Default Blending colors

I need help with blending two colors, I need to blend white with orange, with a .2" gradient. I would do it with the blend tool, but that doesn't give me a good transition. I can't use the gradient tool either, since all the lines are curved and wavy. is there some way I can do this?

Note: The white is on a separate layer than the orange. I attached an example of what I want, the gradient applied to the oval.
