Default quick mask selects entire image?

for whatever reason now when i use the quick mask tool - paint my area - then go back to standard mode - the entire image is selected instead of the area i just painted?? eh

double-click the QuickMask icon and in the dialog you can select to select the selected ... or select the unselected (every thing else) ... just reverse your current setting and the "selected" will be "selected"

Hope I'm right for I don't know what exact you are saying.

After color the part you wanna select and push 'Q', try push 'Ctrl'+'Shift'+'I'.

I'm guessing that you don't know how to use of Quick mask tool exactly.

When you color some parts, the selection will be the part which you didn't color.
