Default Problem with tools from the toolbox

Every now and then (and tonight is one of those nights) whenever I choose either the Paint Brush; Dodge or Burn tools, I cant see the size of that particular tool on my image. Instead of getting a circle showing me the size of the tool that I chose, all I get are crosshairs. The tools works fine but I can't see the size. Some other day, I go to use it and it behaves just fine.
I'm using CS2

Can anyone tell me am I toggling or not toggling and how to correct this whenever it happens?
