Default Photoshop question

I have an image with text, saved as a jpeg, that I want to place into Photoshop. When I try to do this I get a message saying that it’s the wrong type of document, does this mean that I need to save the jpeg as something else and if so what?

JPEG is certainly a file type that Photoshop will open. It may just be that the file is corrupted.

? Are you using a Mac?
? is there a dot-jpg extension on the file name?

First you have to find out if it really is a JPG file.
