Red face Realistic Mirror surface reflections?

Can anyone suggest a technique, tutorial or plugin that can help me create realistic mirror surface reflections of an isolated image in photoshop. For example, I understand the vertical flip layer approach, but with an image of a product positioned at a 45 degree angle, the mirror reflection image is incorrect if the product were sitting on the surface producing the reflection. Here's an example of what I'm talking about:

The bottom image is what I'm trying to achieve but with considerable less photo gymnastics. Anyone have any suggestions? Please don't be afraid of lambasting me. I'm half convinced the answer is right under my nose.

Muchas!

Tomas

I looked at your picture and it seems you did it in a proper way. First you copy the image and flip it vertically. Then you select and copy parts of it (the two vertical sides) and transform them. Just keep the verticals intact. Then blurring and some gradient.
I think I'll make a tutorial on this a bit later.

Blue-,

thanks for the encouragement. My client is asking for lots of this. I was hopeful there was a plug-in I didn't know about that could render the sickest beautiful reflections.

I'd love to see your tutorial.

Thanks,
T

Arrow The solutions aren't always automatic...

Unfortunately, a technique isn't always available in a nice point and click solution.

This one cannot be automated because it requires human decisions.

However, we've posted a full tutorial which shows a number of ways to approach this trendy look...

Default Realistic Mirror surface reflections?

I'm having problems using the Clone tool also. When I Option-Click on the spot I'm trying to 'clone stamp' from, the curser turns from the Clone Stamp/Circle/Crossbar to the black arrow and back to the Circle/Crossbar over and over again. Then when I click, I receive the "Could not use the clone stamp because the area to clone has not been defined (option-click to define a source point)" message. It worked fine when I was using a PC, but I can't get it to work on my Mac. Any suggestions?
