I have Photoshop CS2 - when I fix a photo from my camera in a psd file, then save it as a jpg file, I can't launch it on a photo store's printer. What gives? I can launch it on my computer after changing it to jpg. It doesn't even show up on the CD, whereas if I transfer the original jpg photo (untouched in Photoshop) to the CD, it can be seen and launches fine at the photo printing store. Can anyone help me?
Thanks Jennifer |

Hey, I'm not sure why it's not working. From what you are saying it should work, at least from what I've tried. Have you gotten any further from just trying other things? Sorry I'm not more helpful, I just hate it when I have 20+ views and no responses! So I thought I would at least see how far you've gotten.

Hi Steph, Thanks for answering, I was so excited when I saw I had one reply! But no, I haven't heard anything else from anybody. Please help. I have tried everything I know to convert/save it right, but they can never read my psd-jpeg files at a photo store. If I submit a jpeg file straight from my camera, no problem... just psd files that I've touched up and then saved to jpeg. Strange.
Thanks, Jennifer |

I wouldn't think it would matter... But Maybe try flattening your layers, then saving as a JPG. I really don't see how that would matter but... Also, are you just burning it to a disc or are you putting it on a USB drive? Basically how are you getting it to the photo place? Did you say you can see it, but they can't?

Thanks, I will try flattening it... not sure if I did, probably not. I am just burning it to a disk and then taking the disk to the photo store. When I say I can see it, I mean that after I've burned it to the disk, I can see the icon and bring it up on my screen. But when I get to the store, they can't launch it... they can only launch jpegs right from my camera that have not been photoshopped. Thanks again for your interest. I will try anything.

Sounds to me like its an incompatabilty between apps and appliances. If you are going to a photoprinter at say CVS, these machine are set to only recognize standard commercial file formats like JPEG, TIFF and GIFF. If you have a PSD or AI file, you may as well be asking it to recognize a peanutbutter sandwich. Save the files in one of these formats and give the files an extention (.jpg, .tif, etc) and that should solve your problem. Ther may also be an issue of color space. Save the images in straight RGB, as opposed to sRGB or CMYK.
You could also ask someone at the store… but that may not get you far, come to think of it. Last edited by tscreative : 03-08-2007 at 08:41 PM. |

i tried to do jpegs at walmart on the kodak and fuji printers with both a cd and a floppy. zilch. the machines wouldn't read them at all, when i got home, my machine wouldn't read them either. i resigned myself to the fact that it was not worthwhile after a couple of tries. i found a good photo paper and used my printer. no problems then. forget about asking the people where you go unless it's a professional photo lab, and then you probably wouldn't be having this problem. most folks that work at cvs, walmart and other places usually know less about photography and printing and color than you do. why, may i ask, are you not using your own printer and photo paper? |

This may be a lame post, but is there a possibility you aren't finalizing your cds after you have burned them? If you're simply dragging and dropping to the cd (like it was a floppy) then they won't work outside of your computer. Just a thought...

Hey kdd,
Not sure if you are still experiencing problems... but I have the same issue, so it isn't a problem with you finalising incorrectly or anything like that... Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. I did one just yesterday that worked fine... I am thinking it may have something to do with the colour profile that I am using when I edit them. I saved the most recent one in RGB and it worked. Not sure if that will help, but worth giving it a go... |
