Default Please critique my site

Hi There,
I have started an online business and would appreciate some input on the site.
I am quite new at this. I have used a provided template and feel confined by a shopping cart but would like to get some feedback.

Thanks

A few problems:

Header is missing lower half - test in FF etc.
The image of child is too big (as in file size), compress it. With broadband no reason for an image to be slow to appear.

The titles to the right of the child should be hotlinks/menu. I wanted to click, but nothing.

The top menu icons are too small.

Found another large image: http://www.thepatternplace.com/image...le_picture.jpg
Way too big as 1018Kb.

If you do not have any compression software already, you can get GIMP for windows now (or run it off Linux) and that does a great job at reducing files sizes.

I do not like that "patterns" takes you to a different template. If you cannot get the shop to look like the site, change the site to look like the shop.

Cheers

Jon.

Being newbie is a scary thing. One main design item is give your visitors a consistent layout with the same header and navigation on each page. When surfing your site I thought I had visited 3 different sites. You have a great start and keen eye, a few tips and your good to go. Choose 1 layout and stick to it.The images you are using could be optimized for quick loading. a free program that will resize and cut file size is PhotoRazor you can get it free at http://www.stormdance.net. Its easy to use, open the photos, choose size in pxls, lower quality to 50 (no quality loss) and click resize. Make thumbs 100 and images 3-400. You have a great product. Perhaps increase the size of font for your navigation, chances are many of your customers will have older eyes, squinting drives them away. I hope this helps. keep up the good work

Overall I like the site. However I have to agree with the flow with the shop site. If you cannot get these 2 to look seemless I would pull that off the navigation bar at the top and make it a button or link somewhere.

Also, I am not a big fan of centering text, but that might just be my preference.
